Description

What is CPAP?

CPAP is a device that is used to treat Obstructive Sleep Apnoea, by delivering a mild air pressure to the collapsing airway during sleep. The benefits can be felt, even after the first night.

  • Snoring stops.
  • Tiredness improves.
  • Energy levels increase.
  • Concentration improves.
  • Reduced risk of heart attack, stroke and high blood pressure.
  • Reduced risk of road traffic accidents.

CPAP Trial

Once we have established a need for CPAP, we will provide you with an automatic CPAP device on loan for one – two weeks. This will allow us to establish what pressures are needed to adequately treat the Sleep Apnoea and allow you to discover any benefits from CPAP. The trial will include a new mask fitted by one of our experts, to ensure the best comfort and fit. You will have our on-going support throughout the trial followed by a discussion of the benefits and demonstration of improvements in the Sleep Apnoea.

What will happen next?

Following the trial, there will be two further options available;

Option 1

Have a referral for a CPAP machine via the NHS. This can be done by contacting your GP.

Option 2

Purchase your own CPAP machine and continue with treatment immediately after the CPAP trial. This will allow treatment to be continued without delay, avoiding NHS waiting lists. We will advise on which device to purchase and ensure all the correct pressure settings are in place to ensure the Sleep Apnoea is adequately treated. When you are established on your new CPAP device, we will discuss on-going support and follow-up options with you, to best suit your needs.
